smells translation to flavor: integrity

the smell of cannabis has always been a driving factor in its allure, effect and potency. however, one of the most important aspects of the smell, is how it translates into flavor. some smells transfer more easily into flavor. while others do not translate as well. i like to use the word integrity to describe the accuracy between smell and flavor. I find that many floral and fruity aromas, do not translate well into the flavor and therefore lack integrity. my favorite flavors, in the skunk to fuel spectrum have a lot of integrity and very much taste the way that they smell.

it seems that many of the fruitier strains, that do not have as much integrity as flower, seem to translate much better as concentrates. i pretty much exclusively smoke flower, so the integrity is very important to me and you won’t be surprised that I grow almost all strains in the fuel spectrum and not much fruit.

I do have a soft spot for sharp lemon terps, however you may notice sharp lemon seems to have the integrity between aroma and flavor that I crave. orange terps can go both ways, and although not usually my favorite place to be. integrity is integrity and even a pure orange terp has its place when it comes through right.

in my pheno selection and breeding i am selecting for strains with integrity. a great aroma, but one that translates into a great flavor. these are the nuances that can only be determined after a good dry and cure and cannot be determined while still on the plant.
